Last current event quiz

1.The conflict involving historical preservation between the Labay family and the old west austin neighborhood association was that west austin is tied up in what could be the endgame of a 16-year fight over an eyesore of a vacant old house a few blocks south of the store. I believe that the labay family has a better case, in the way that they would like to destroy the house because of its health issues and its safety issues. The compromise that is being proposed would include subdividing the lot to preserve the home while allowing development on the other portion of the house. I believe that this compromise is good because that would then leave everyone involved happy, including others not involved.
2. On Tuesday UT, and A&M will compete for the contract to operate one of the nation’s nuclear weapons labs. The other people that they are partnering with is the Boeing, Battelle institute in Sandia nuclear effort. In this new task the UT and A&M student would provide research expertise, workforce training and independent peer review of the work done at sandia. The students would also add perspective to the task. I think that this proposal is a very good opportunity for the students to work together, but then again I believe that it could be very dangerous. Maybe this isn’t such a good idea for the universities to support because of the level of safety and possible drama between the students.
3.The latest news on Cosby's story is that he drugged and sexually assaulted a woman whom he once mentored, with this ruling the case will move forward. Cosby's lawyer that the former district attorney promised never to prosecute Cosby as a way to introduce him to testify in the civil suit brought by con-stand, which was settled. These might be that lamest arguments I have ever seen. I think that this story is in the right spot when it comes to being on the front page. Many women were hurt and they need justice, along with justice the community also needs to know what has happened. Many people know about this story and most people want to know about it including women.
4.The school will now be named Russell Lee instead of Robert E. Lee. Russell Lee was a photographer and also lived in the lee neighborhood. A lot of his work is actually at UT. This name was chosen because most people didn’t like the name in the first place, and the compromise that was made in order to keep the “Lee” title wads to choose someone who also had the last name Lee. On monday it was a little bit awkward because of the fact that many thought that this really didn’t change anything. Lee elementary will always be lee no matter what their first name. I agree with this because no one really calls it robert E lee
5. One way this this horrific story could end would be with firing the baylor recruiter. This scandal is about two sexual assault charges. A woman told police and hospital people that earlier that morning she had been assaulted. The handling of this case was somehow not done correctly..This article was very unclear to me. I believe that he should be let go, this case was handled very poorly and people got hurt.

Coach Northcutt story

Ms. Northcutt is no rookie when it comes coaching. Over the years she has been a great volleyball coach, but she has recently picked up softball. Nikki Northcutt said “ Softball was so much fun, and I was thrilled to support Coach Matz in her first year as a head coach.” Coach Matz, her fellow volleyball coach was one of the main reasons why she joined softball in the first place.  Northcutt being the great coach that she is knew how to adjust to the slower pace, different skill set of softball. Northcutt said “ softball as a game is not as intense in pace as volleyball. You have to sustain your focus in times of quiet, where there is never quiet in volleyball. “ With being able to adapt so quickly Northcutt also was able to create many new memories, during the softball season “ we had a lot of injuries” Northcutt said “leaving us with only nine on each team. She wrote ‘ no subs. You’re fine.’ on the line-up clipboard. From then on, whenever a player complained, that was the reply.” Throughout the season Northcutt had tons of fun.
Along with a new commitment comes new responsibilities.  With all the weekdays and some weekends dedicated to softball Northcutt still found ways to continue her home life a before. Northcutt said “coaching is extremely demanding in terms of time and energy. Since I’m a single mom of a nine year old, Theo became our ‘bat-boy.’ He actually loved his job, but he prefers to be home with me. I also declined a million social engagements. I hope i still have friends left.” With being a coach for more than one sport you tend to learn a few things. Whether it be about a new coaching technique or something you can contribute to your home life. “ I think staying healthy is the most important thing to do to be the best coach. It is imperative that I take care of my diet, exercise, and rest in order to stay alert and positive for my team” Northcutt said “I haven’t had a great success with this, but I’m trying. Next season! I also  am passionate about being organized and communicative. I like for my players and families to know what's going on and what to expect. I’m the same way as a parent” We all know Coach Northcutt puts her best effort forward when doing anything, whether it be coaching, teaching or parenting.

But she couldn't have done it without all of the support of the family members of coaches and players, and teachers. “ The Volleyball and Softball parents have been so supportive.” Northcutt said “ We could NOT do this crazy job without all of the family support”
