Current Event Quiz

1.The law that will be reviewed is the Texas abortion law. On monday the supreme court will announce whether or not they will review. Many think that the supreme court will review this including jessie hill. Texas attorney doesn't want the law to be looked at again because of the possible medical difficulty.

2. The judge shielded the charges against the officer. The precedent from 125 years ago was used to shield him from facing criminal charges. The supremacy clause declares the primary law of land. The impact could be far-reaching according to Jens David Ohlin.

3. Longhorns are very excited about this trip! The Washington team takes major preparation for this trip, UT did some cultural prep but not the same amount. This game is historic because it's a experiment to see weather or they should take a trip next summer or fall to engage alumni and to explore other possibilities.They UT team is concerned about missing so much class time. Will they be able to recover?

4. On sunday, many citizens voted in Myanmar's historic general election to test their military power and how it can be loosened. Many people lived up in the Buddhist temples, schools and government buildings early in the morning to vote. They expected person to win is Suu kyi's.

5. Pope Francis said that the action of the crime was stealing the financial malfeasances. The pope said that the publishing of the two documents doesn't help.  The books say that the mismanagement and alleged greed in the vatican, and are seen as part of a bitter internal struggle between reformers and the old guard. The pope is mad because the vatican described the book in a negative way.

6. Sanctuary cities in Texas are Austin, Dallas and Houston. Each story has a different view on immigration. And should they enforce the immigrants law. Gregg Abbott has many opinions. Should we try to change the idea that Houston and austin are the main immigration spots. Those cities don't seem to try to fix the problem of all the immigrants in these cities. The second image I don't really understand. Maybe the image that is for the first article is saying all immigration is bad.

This editorial has two views compared to the fact that most only really have one main view. There is no editorial on the page. Saying that they don't have a editorial page with no editorial

  1. 1. Why do people want the law reviewed by the Supreme Court? The attorney general said the law was made to make abortions safer not more difficult to obtain. (-2)
    2. What it the precedent? What does the Supremacy Clause do? It makes federal officers exempt from local jurisdiction, and Kleinert was merely a local officer who served on a federal task force? How far-reaching could it be? (-3)
    4. They were voting to change power from a military regime to a democratic one. What is the other major party? Why is the outcome significant? (-2)
    5. The pope was upset about the stealing of documents. You can't steal malfeasance (the documents revealed that malfeasance occurred). What corruption (malfeasance) did the documents reveal? The pope is mad because he felt betrayed and because he felt the release of this information would confuse people not inform them (at least that's what he said). (-3)
    6. You don't really explain the arguments of the two columns very well. You talk about what each mentions, but you don't say what opinion the two authors express. You say that you don't understand the second cartoon but don't write anything about the first cartoon. (-3)
